Gear pump comprises a housing having two covers.The power and driven gears are supported by four friction bearings.The protruding drive shaft has been sealed.The meshing gear is enclosed by the housing.The clearance between the tooth tip and the housing is very small, and ports are precisely defined in the housing.One port is on the suction side of the pump (inlet) and the other is on the pressure side of the pump (discharge).A gear is usually driven by a motor connected to the drive shaft, which extends from the housing.As the gear rotates, a chamber is formed between the two teeth and the housing, and the chamber is filled with pumped media.Therefore, the medium is transported from the suction side of the pump to the pressure side.At the point of tooth engagement, the pumped medium is removed from the gap between the teeth.Therefore, gear pump is called positive displacement pump.
